Tom Buttacavoli

Tom Buttacavoli joined BioVentures MedTech as a Managing Director in 2024. He brings over 20 years of experience in the investment management business to the platform.

His investment experience is wide ranging from capital markets expertise in multiple industries to principal investing in various asset classes within alternative credit, including consumer credit, residential and commercial credit as well as intellectual property and litigation finance in addition to more recent private investment experience within the MedTech sector.

Previously, he was a founding member of Waterfall Asset Management, an investment platform managing ~$13 billion in AUM.  He served as the firm’s Chief Investment Officer responsible for developing and managing the firm’s investment strategies in the U.S. and Europe, including overseeing the firm’s middle-market private equity business.  In addition to running the firm’s day-to-day investment activity, he was chair of the firm’s Investment Committee, ran the firm’s ESG initiatives and was an active member of the firm’s Risk Committee, Technology Committee and Operations Committee.  Prior to Waterfall Asset Management Tom held positions at Licent Capital and BNY Capital Markets.

Tom earned a B.A. in finance and accounting from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
