Working With Us
BioVentures welcomes all potential investments related to human health and wellness, including: biotechnology, genomics, human therapeutics, medical devices, diagnostics, nutrition, healthcare IT and research or medical services.
We seek ventures with the potential to address significant markets, or those based on clinical or scientific breakthroughs that represent a fundamental advancement. In every case, we expect portfolio companies to have an “entrepreneurial advantage”…a particular, definable and quantifiable rationale for why the business plan or the underlying technology is particularly suited to commercial development by a relatively small enterprise operating in a highly competitive environment.
We focus primarily on businesses that have a management team in place and have data from initial research and development to support claims, though we do consider early-stage investments as appropriate for our portfolio. We will also consider investing in special-situation or public-equity opportunities that hold the potential for venture-level returns.
Our target is to invest between $3 and $7 million in each portfolio company over several rounds. We were lead or co-lead in six of the seven deals closed to date in Fund III.
Submission:
Materials may be submitted directly to any BioVentures investment professional, or to info@bioventuresinvestors.com. We prefer electronic submissions in all cases.
Initial submission should include, at minimum, a comprehensive executive summary containing the following:
- A clear explanation of underlying technology
- Data from any supporting experiments
- Short biographies of senior management and founding scientists
- Business strategy, including development timelines and exit opportunities
- Use of proceeds
- Investment history
- Financial summary
- Location
We try to review all materials within three weeks of submission, after which we will provide an indication of our level of interest, and potentially request additional data. During our review process, materials are read by all three fund Partners for discussion at weekly meetings.
We do not sign confidentiality agreements until after we have determined interest in a potential investment.
Please be aware that we review hundreds of potential investments each year, so that many submissions, even though investment grade, are passed on because they do not meet the specific needs of our portfolio.
“As CEO, I value both BioVentures Investors' experience in building shareholder value and their background as a management consultant to emerging companies.”
