Anthony Coia, M.D.
PRINCIPAL
Anthony is a Kauffman Fellow and brings more than a decade of experience in life science new venture formation, strategy consulting, and research. Prior to joining BioVentures Investors, he was a management consultant with L.E.K. Consulting in the Life Sciences Practice Group where he worked with pharmaceutical, biotech and private equity clients on projects that addressed asset valuation, strategic planning and investment due diligence.
Partners Healthcare, Mass General, Brigham and Woman’s Hospital
Anthony
was the Director of Technology Development for Partners Healthcare,
where he helped to commercialize technology from the Massachusetts
General Hospital (MGH) and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). He
worked on cardiology, oncology and dermatology opportunities, among
others. Earlier in his career, he was a manager with Greenspring
Advisors, a start-up founded by Carl Schramm, President and CEO of the Kauffman Foundation, focused on HealthCare IT and merchant banking.
MD, MBA, BSc
Anthony
holds an MD from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where he focused
on internal medicine and regenerative research, an MBA from the Kellogg
School of Management where he focused on strategy, finance and decision
analysis, and a BS in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from
Syracuse University (Tau Beta Pi, magna cum laude).
Research
Anthony
has conducted research in the areas of neurodegenerative disease with
the University of Pennsylvania and in regenerative medicine with the
Johns Hopkins Hospital. During business school, Anthony also
co-authored work published in the journal Nature Biotech on the subject
of “Value Drivers in Licensing Deals” (Nov. 2002).
Public Service
Prior
to medical school, Anthony was an officer in the United States Air
Force, where he served as an aviator in the F-111 airframe. He was
discharged from the USAF having received the Air Force Achievement
Medal for Leadership. He is also an active volunteer for the
Southwest Corridor Park Conservancy, part of Frederick Law Olmsted's
Emerald Necklace, a series of parks, in Boston.

Anthony has worked closely with Hydra Biosciences and currently sits on the Boards of Cardiosolutions Inc, Rcadia Medical Imaging, and Vital Sensors. He was also a previous Co-Chairman of the Venture Capital Alumni Advisory Committee for the Kellogg School of Management.
