John E. Osborn, JD, MIPP
Venture Partner and Principal

John E. Osborn, JD, MIPP, joined BioVentures Investors as a Venture Partner in 2018 after working for several years with a BioVentures Investors portfolio company. John has two decades of senior executive experience in prominent life science companies, including Cephalon, DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Co., and McKesson’s US Oncology unit.

John has prior private equity experience as an Executive-in-Residence and industry advisor with the healthcare and consumer group at Warburg Pincus. He has been a member of the board of directors or the corporate advisory board of publicly traded and privately held companies in the specialty pharmaceutical, biomedical device and healthcare IT sectors.

John has served in all three branches of the Federal government, as a law clerk to a U.S. Court of Appeals judge, as a Congressional staffer, and with the U.S. Department of State. He was nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the Senate in 2008 as a member of the United States Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy. He has held visiting or adjunct academic appointments at Oxford, Princeton, UCLA and the University of Washington, and currently serves on the Leadership Council of the University of Michigan Life Sciences Institute. John is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Law Institute, and is a regular contributor on health policy and regulatory issues for Forbes.com and STAT.

John earned a BA in Economics and History from the University of Iowa, a Master’s degree in international public policy from The Johns Hopkins University, and a JD from the University of Virginia.
